Twink has been singing and acting since she was five. She’s spent more than 30 years in Dublin’s theatres: 26 years in the Gaiety Theatre, two years in the Point Theatre and five years in the Olympia Theatre. She’s star in everything from ‘Annie’ to’ The Vagina Monologues’ and now she’s taking to Tivoli for ‘Dirty Dustin’. Movies.ie talks cinema with the panto queen:

Q: How often to you get to sit down and watch a movie?

I was when I was a kid, and my parents brought me to The GREEN CINEMA to see all the musicals, and Pathe news …which I loved. Nowadays…. to tell you the truth, I can take or leave most of them.

Q: Tell us about the last movie you saw? (either in cinema, video, DVD or TV)

Well I’ve fallen asleep every time I’ve tried to watch Gone with the wind, once on a flight, and umpteen Christmas days. I finally watched it all recently, and I must say, I see what all the fuss was about, I thought it was excellent..

Q: What is your favourite Irish movie and why?

I’d have to say the Committments, because it broke the mould, and I’d so many pals in it, which made it even more special…….plus it was hystericlally funny. And I have to add EVELYN…..because a smashing young pupil of mine Sophie Vavasseur played the title role. And TAFFIN with Pierce Brosnan, and our own fabulous Jim Bartley……only because I had a small part in it, so small that if you blinked…..you’d already missed my oscar winning performance!

Q: What is your favourite movie of all time?

Really the old ” quality” musicals are my favourties, but I thought “` Dead Poets Society” was wonderful. “Sleeping with the enemy” scared the socks off me. And basically, anything with Julie Roberts in it….the girl just can’t seem to get it wrong!

Q: What movie could you never sit through again?

Star Wars………..or anything to do with it….I absolutely loathe Science Fiction!

Q: Describe your ideal movie cast… (actor, actress & director)

Gene Kelly , Barbara Streisand, Sally Field, Goldie Hawn, Julia Roberts, Denzel Washington, Robin Williams, Will Smith, Sir John Gieldgood, …the hysterically funny camp guy (Jack) from Will and Grace, and either Gene Kelly, Alan Parker, or David Lean directing.

Q: Have you ever cried during a movie? Which one?

All of them…..the minute the oboe comes into the soundtrack to herald some bloody trauma or other…I’m off! However…I’m second only to Theresa Lowe…who is the biggest movie weeper of all time !

Q: Favourite movie snack?

I’m a performer….I don’t “get” people’s need to eat while they’re being entertained in Cinemas or Theatres !

Q: Favourite TV programme?

Just about anything on “The Discovery Channel,The History Channel, Time Team, Forensics, Medical programmes……….that’s all I really watch…. I’ve never left school….I still love learning………. Oh and quality quizes….13 to one, The weakest Link, University Challenge, Countdown, ……..I’m such a smart arse, know it all, I love to hear myself knowing the answers, when the competitors don’t !

Q: Who would play you in the movie adaptation of your life?

Angeline Ball or Lisa Lambe……………………they’re amazingly talented girls !………….( they’d probably be better as me…..than me!)

You can catch Adele on stage at the Tivoli Theatre in Dublin where she is performing in ‘Dirty Dustin’ which runs until October 4th. For further information see www.tivoli.ie
