Legendary Chinese action star Donnie Yen (‘Rogue One,’ ‘Ip Man,’ ‘Sleeping Dogs’) is set to join the cast of ‘Mulan,’ Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation that has actress, model and singer Liu Yifei (‘The Forbidden Kingdom,’ ‘Outcast’) in the title role. ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife’ and ‘Whale Rider’ director Niki Caro is behind the camera for the story of Hua Mulan, the legendary warrior from ancient China who disguised herself as a man to take her aged father’s place in the army and go to war. Per Deadline, Yen will take on the role of Commander Tung, a mentor and teacher to Liu Yifei’s Mulan. Disney’s 1998 animated classic, featuring the voices of Ming-Na Wen alongside Eddie Murphy, Pat Morita, James Hong and B.D. Wong, earned €256.5 million worldwide as well as Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.
