Everything You Need To Know About Ken Scott, director of UNFINISHED BUSINESS…
UNFINISHED BUSINESS is released in Irish cinemas this week, and we took the opportunity to gather together some facts about the films’ director, Ken Scott.
Ken Scott is one of Canada’s most successful film makers, he’s responsible for the second biggest Canadian film of all time, and Montreal’s La Presse newspaper named him one of the 25 most influential Canadian’s on the cultural scene.
Scott gained a degree in cinematography from the Universite Du Quebec A Montreal in 1991. His first widely seen work was a series of TV adverts for cheese shot between 1995 and 1998.
One of Scott’s first ever film’s SEDUCING DOCTOR LEWIS won the Audience Award at 2004’s Sundance Film Festival.
THE GRAND SEDUCTION
After winning a Sundance award and becoming the second biggest Canadian movie of all time Scott’s low budget SEDUCING DOCTOR LEWIS/LA GRANDE SÉDUCTION was picked up by a major studio and remade as 2013’s THE GRAND SEDUCTION, the setting was changed to Newfoundland and starred Taylor Kitsch alongside our own Brendan Gleeson.
I’LL REMAKE MY OWN FILM, THANKS.
In a rare occurrence, Ken Scott was chosen to remake one of his other French- Canadian movies. He had the honor of co-writing and directing the American version of STARBUCK which became 2013’s DELIVERY MAN starring Vince Vaughn.
Scott’s 2011 movie STARBUCK has the rare honour of being remade three different times for three different territories. Besides 2013’s Hollywood remake DELIVERY MAN it was also remade by Bollywood as 2012’s VICKY DONOR. While FONZY was a French remake of the film starring Jose Garcia.
Scott’s latest comedy hits Irish cinemas this week and stars Vince Vaughn, Dave Franco, Nick Frost, Tom Wilkinson and Sienna Miller. Originally titled BUSINESS TRIP, it tells the story of a fledgling company sent to Europe to close the biggest deal of their career. The trouble is, once they get to Germany, they meet the competition; their former boss.
One of the posters for UNFINISHED BUSINESS features a man in a suit with a beer glass for a head. This is a clever homage to the poster for Jason Reitman’s 2005 satirical comedy THANK YOU FOR SMOKING.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS marks a change in direction for Ken Scott, who up until now has written every film he directed. This movie was written by Steve Conrad the man behind Ben Stiller’s THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY and Will Smith’s THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS.
