Before returning to the director’s chair for ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ talented filmmaker Taika Waititi is set to tackle a narrative adaptation of the documentary ‘Next Goal Wins.’
Released in 2014, Mike Brett and Steve Jamison’s documentary tells the true story of maverick Dutch coach Thomas Rongen who attempts the nearly impossible task of turning the American Samoa soccer team from perennial losers into winners.
Brett and Jamison are on board to produce, alongside Garrett Basch, and Jonathan Cavendish and Andy Serkis through their Imaginarium Productions. Waititi is adapting the feature with Iain Morris (‘The Inbetweeners,’ ‘Flight of the Conchords’).
Waititi’s latest, the anti-hate satire ‘Jojo Rabbit,’ is released in Irish cinemas January 2020.
