Steve McQueen Bringing Brit TV Series WIDOWS To The Big Screen

McQueen to write and direct heist thriller…

THR is reporting that ’12 Years a Slave’ and ‘Shame’ director Steve McQueen is to tackle a big screen remake of the 1980s British TV mini-series ‘Widows’ for his next project.

Written by Lynda La Plante, the six-part crime drama followed the widows of three veteran armed robbers, killed during a heist, who wonder whether they can pull off the failed heist themselves. Using a cache of ledgers detailing the plans for the robberies, and enlisting the help of a fourth woman they resolve to pull off the failed heist themselves.

Pre-production is slated to get underway by the end of the year with Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, McQueen’s producers on ’12 Years A Slave’ on board.

McQueen is expected to follow-up the crime thriller with his long-in-the-works biopic about singer, actor and civil rights advocate Paul Robeson.
