Mel Gibson Remaking Sam Peckinpah’s Classic Western THE WILD BUNCH

Hollywood’s remake trend continues, with Mike Fleming over at Deadline bringing word that Mel Gibson has signed to write and direct a remake of the classic Sam Peckinpah western ‘The Wild Bunch.’

Released in 1969, Peckinpah’s original featured an ensemble cast that included William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Edmond O’Brien, Warren Oates, Jaime Sanchez and Ben Johnson. The Western followed an aging outlaw gang that try for one last score on the Texas-Mexico border, while trying to exist in the changing “modern” world of 1913.

Gibson will script the project Bryan Bagby (‘L.I.N.X.,’ ‘Once A Pilgrim’), and also serve as executive producer.
‘The Wild Bunch’ mark’s Gibson’s first directing gig since 2016’s ‘Hacksaw Ridge.’
