The folks over at Deadline have word that Johnny Depp has signed on to portray eccentric software millionaire John McAfee in the John Requa and Glenn Ficarra-directed biopic ‘King of the Jungle.’
Based on an account that appeared in a 2012 edition of Wired magazine, the film follows the computer virus magnate-turned-accused murderer as he takes a Wired magazine writer on a darkly comic Apocalypse Now-like tour at his Belize compound, a trip filled with paranoia, machine guns, sex and murder.
Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (‘The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story’) are penning the script, with Requa and Ficarra producing via Zaftig Films. Wired publisher Conde Nast Entertainment will co-produce.
Depp will next be seen reprising his role of Captain Jack Sparrow in ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge,’ hitting Irish cinemas May 26th.
