Hollywood Adapting Neal Shusterman’s UNWIND

Dystopian tale to receive big screen treatment.

Variety reports that Constantin Film has secured the rights to Neal Shusterman’s bestselling sci-fi novel ‘Unwind,’ with plans for a big screen adaptation.

Published in 2007 the book is set in a dystopian future in which parents of teens can choose to have their child “unwound” — a process in which the teen’s organs are transplanted into different donors. The story follows three teens who all become runaway Unwinds: Connor, a rebel whose parents have ordered his unwinding; Risa, a ward of the state who is to be unwound due to cost-cutting; and Lev, his parents’ tenth child whose unwinding has been planned since birth as a religious tithing. Together, they may have a chance to escape and to survive.

Shusterman followed the book with a sequel, ‘Unwholly,’ and has a third one is in the works. Marc Benardout, Catherine Kimmel, Robert Kulzer, Julian Stone and Charlotte Stoudt will produce the adaptation, with Martin Moszkowicz on board as executive producer.
