Henry Cavill cast as new Superman

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, It’s Henry Cavill

Long rumoured for the role for quite sometime now, English-born Henry Cavill has finally been announced as the role of Superman/Clark Kent.

Deadline.com reports that the 27-year-old actor best known ‘The Tudors’ and who will next be seen as Theseus in the upcoming film ‘Immortals’ – has won the role after a long search.

Cavill’s was also a leading contender for the part back when directors Brett Ratner and McG were attached to direct Superman Returns, which Bryan Singer ended up directing. He also narrowly missed out being James Bond when producers were hunting for a new 007 for Casino Royale but was said to be too young for the role.

Speaking of the casting, Superman director said “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry.  He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

SUPERMAN is scheduled to open in 2013
