Eddie Izzard Joins BOYCHOIR With Dustin Hoffman

Will replace Alfred Molina in the drama…

Stand-up comedian/actor Eddie Izzard, Debra Winger, Josh Lucas, and Kevin McHale (‘Glee’) have become the latest additions to the cast of ‘The Red Violin’ director François Girard’s indie drama ‘Boychoir.’

The film follows Stet, a troubled and angry 11-year-old orphan (played by newcomer Garrett Wareing) from a small Texas town, who ends up at a Boy Choir school back East after the death of his single mom. Completely out of his element, he finds himself in a battle of wills with Carvelle (Dustin Hoffman), a demanding Choir Master who recognizes a unique talent in this young boy as he pushes him to discover his creative heart and soul in music.

Izzard will play a teacher at the new school who is Hoffman’s right-hand. Alfred Molina was intitally set to play the role but had to exit due to scheduling conflicts. Deadline hears that Lucas is playing the boy’s estranged father, with ‘Glee’ star McHale as a young music teacher who champions the kid. Winger will play the principal at the boy’s Texas school.

Young stars Joe West and River Alexander will also feature, with Kathy Bates on board to play the school’s headmistress.

Production kicks off this week in Connecticut with Girard directing from a script by Ben Ripley (‘Source Code’).
