Details on New Toy Short & Two Upcoming Pixar Features

Pixar reveals details on ‘Toy Story: Hawaiian Vacation’ follow-up, and upcoming features.

Early this year it was revealed that a second untitled ‘Toy Story’ short was to be attached to ‘The Muppets’ when it hits the cinemas in February 2012, now we have a title, and plot details.

Announced over the weekend at Disney’s D23 Expo by the short’s director Angus MacLane (‘BURN-E’), ‘Toy Story: Small Fry’ will see Buzz Lightyear left behind at a fast food restaurant when a kids’ meal toy version of Buzz takes his place. While the rest of the gang are stuck with the annoying 3-inch-tall Buzz impersonator, the real Buzz is trapped in the restaurant at a support group for discarded toys. As Woody and the gang devise a way to rescue their friend, Buzz tries to escape the toy psychotherapy meeting. One of the new toys, a Mermaid of sorts, will be voiced by Jane Lynch (‘Glee’).

Pixar also revealed some details on its two upcoming full length features. The first is scheduled to hit cinemas in 2013, and is a hilarious, heartfelt and original tale that asks the question, what if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? The as-yet-untitled project will be directed by Bob Peterson (co-director ‘Up,’ and voice of Dug the dog) and produced by John Walker (‘The Incredibles,’ ‘The Iron Giant’).

That will be followed by Pete Docter’s mysterious new feature that promises to “take you to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind.” Talking at D23, Docter (co-director ‘Up,’ ‘Monsters, Inc.’) promised to comically explain how decisions are made “and how certain songs get stuck in your head.” The currently untitled feature is set for release in 2014.
