Scribe lines up his second directorial effort…
Variety is hearing that screenwriter-turned-director Alex Garland (‘Dredd,’ ‘Sunshine,’ ’28 Days Later’) has signed on to write and direct ‘Annihilation,’ a thriller based on the first book in Jeff VanderMeer’s ‘The Southern Reach’ trilogy.
Published earlier this year, the first book centres on a biologist seeking answers about her husband’s disappearance in the mysterious “Area X”, an environmental disaster area sealed off by the government for the last 30 years.
‘Annihilation’ is set up over at Paramount Pictures with Scott Rudin and Eli Bush producing.
Garland made his directorial debut on ‘Ex Machina’ starring Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, and Oscar Isaac. You can check out the stunning first trailer the sci-fi thriller, which hits Irish cinemas January23rd 2015, HERE.
