Principal photography has commenced this week on the ‘Transformers’ spin-off ‘Bumblebee,’ with ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’ helmer Travis Knight behind the camera.
The film, set for release on December 2018, stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Pamela Aldon, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Kenneth Choi, Jason Drucker, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos, Gracie Dzienny, and Abby Quinn.
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
‘Transformers’ franchise veterans Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay produce the spinoff, with Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Mark Vahradian, and Chris Brigham executive producing.
