ALIEN NATION Reboot In Development

Popular sci-fi headed back to the big screen…

Heat Vision’s Borys Kit has word that the folks at 20th Century Fox has brought in ‘Iron Man’ screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway to provide the script for a reboot of the 1988 sci-fi ‘Alien Nation.’

Starring James Caan, Mandy Patinkin, and Terence Stamp, the Graham Baker-directed original was set in a near future and depicted the assimilation of the Newcomers, an alien race settling in Los Angeles. The film centred on the partnership between a racially insensitive veteran LAPD detective (Caan) and his newly assigned partner (played by Patinkin) as they probe the criminal underworld of the Newcomers as they attempt to solve a homicide.

The film was a moderate financial success and was spun off into to a short-lived television series, itself leading to five television films, comics, and a number of novels.

According to Kit’s sources, the studio is looking to launch a franchise with the first film telling how and why the aliens came to Earth.
