Following on from the “Falcon and The Winter Soldier” Disney+ series, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) officially steps into the daunting boots of Chris Evans’ Captain America for the franchise’s 4th film.
Sam finds himself in an international conspiracy with newly-elected President, but this isn’t just any world leader, this is a red Hulk, with the angry face of Harrison Ford.
1969
The character Samuel Wilson first appeared in Marvel comics in 1969, originally known by his superhero alias Falcon, he took over the mantle of Captain America in 2015.

“Number six on the call sheet has arrived!” is what Anthony Mackie would shout to announce his arrival on set during his eight previous Marvel appearances… Since becoming the lead he’s been upgraded to first on the call sheet but has insisted on keeping the number six, saying “That’s my Marvel number.”

‘Brave New World’ is the 35th Marvel film in the MCU, it is the 4th ‘Captain America’ film, the first without Chris Evans in the lead role as Steve Rogers.
Avengers assemble
‘Brave New World’ isn’t just another star-spangled spectacle – it’s the launchpad for the MCU’s next chapter! One of the storylines will kickstart the future of Marvel & lay the foundations for the next Avengers movies when Sam Wilson is tasked with assembling a new group of heroes.
Cinematic DNA
Director Julius Onah shared a list of film’s that inspired him while making ‘Brave New World’ including ‘The Day Of The Jackal’ (1973), ‘All The Presidents Men’ (1976), and ‘The Parallax View.’ (1974). These flicks aren’t just old-school cool – they’re about heroes (or anti-heroes) playing a high-stakes game of cat and mouse. It’s like Onah raided your cool uncle’s VHS collection and said, “Let’s make Cap do that!”
PRESIDENT HULK
Harrison Ford joins the MCU as President Thaddeus Ross, he replaces he late William Hurt who previously played Ross on screen five times, with his first appearance in 2008’s ‘The Incredible Hulk’ (when The Hulk looked like Edward Norton). When asked how his president, who is a rampaging monster, manipulated by outside interests compares to real life political figures Harrison Ford joked “So far we have not had a president who can transform into a hulk”.
SHEILD V SMASH
The film’s poster (below) serves up a slice of comic book nostalgia. The image that features Sam Wilson blocking Red Hulk’s punch with his shield is a homage to the classic Captain America #230 cover from way back in 1979.
NEW WORLD ORDER
The movie’s title changed from “New World Order” to “Brave New World” during production because the phrase had been co-opted in the real world in a way that made people uncomfortable. “Brave New World is a great title for this film,” Anthony Mackie, teased last year. “It’s a new beginning, and it’s a foundation on which Marvel will build the universe on now. Not only this character but all the characters that surround him are new building blocks for us to utilise to move on through the universe and into the future.”
