Movie Wars The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 vs The Taking of Pelham One Two Three

The seventies seem to be enjoying quite a renaissance at the moment – flares are back and all this new fangled electro music just sounds like Lipps Inc.’s Funkytown to us at movies.ie. Maybe we’re getting old… Anyway! This renaissance seems to be making its way into our cinemas also. Tony Scott’s remake of cult classic The Warriors will go into production soon and this week he gives us his version of another 70’s hit, The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three. The hostage classic sees a subway train being captured by a group of thugs for a hefty ransom and the efforts of those back at base to negotiate with the terrorists. How does the remake measure up to the original? Can Denzel Washington really be the replacement for Walter Matthau? Let’s see as it’s seconds out for The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three.

Time is money people and the movie industry moves fast! Definitely too fast for any extra letters! Thus The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three from stuffy old 1974 becomes The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3 for the go go noughties. Who needs letters when you have figures? Bam! Well, maybe movies.ie is feeling nostalgic for a simpler time but we definitely prefer the 1970’s title. The 2009 version is evidence of what happens when you let marketing departments have too much influence and the pointless rebranding exercise is a little grating to say the least! Point one (or should I say 1?) to 1974!
