Writer Hired for THE SAINT Reboot

Debonair thief is next in line for reboot treatment.

RKO Pictures is planning to remake ‘The Saint,’ and according to Variety, the legendary Hollywood studio has big plans for the “Robin Hood of modern crime.”

It appears the studio is looking to turn debonair thief into the next Ethan Hunt or Jason Bourne, as the trade is reporting that ‘Eagle Eye’ screenwriter Travis Wright has been tapped to write a script that will serve as the first in a possible trilogy.

Created by Leslie Charteris, The Saint – aka Simon Templar – first appeared in the 1928 book ‘Enter the Tiger.’ Templar’s targets included corrupt politicians, businessmen, warmonger and lowlifes, or as he refers to them, “the Ungodly.” The character went on to feature in some 50 mystery-adventure novels, shorts stories, radio serials, comic books, movies and three television series.

Variety says that the new films will be based on three of the nine ‘Saint’ films that RKO still holds the rights to; it is unknown which films specifically.
