WORLD OF WARCRAFT Enlists New Scribe

Charles Leavitt subscribes for big screen adaptation.

Legendary Pictures is moving ahead with its planned adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s hit videogame ‘World of Warcraft’ and has tapped screenwriter Charles Leavitt (‘The Seventh Son,’ ‘The Express,’ ‘Blood Diamond’) to provide a new draft for the adaptation.

Blizzard’s ‘Warcraft’ universe features an epic conflict between the Horde and the Alliance. The subscription-based game has developed a global following since its launch in 1994 and shows no signs of slowing. ‘Mists of Pandaria,’ the latest and largest expansion pack for massively multiplayer online role-playing game, will be available from both retail outlets and online from September 25th.

In related news, Sam Raimi is no longer attached to direct the adaptation. The ‘Evil Dead’ director stepped down as director due to his commitments to Disney’s ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful.’ Legendary Pictures will now begin the hunt for a new helmer.
