Wood and Mikkelsen Join LaBeouf for THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN

Gritty pulp romance adds two more.

With Shia LaBeouf set to star and commercials helmer Fredrik Bond attached to direct, ‘The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman’ is starting to move closer to production. Now Variety has word that Evan Rachel Wood (‘The Ides of March,’ ‘True Blood’) and Mads Mikkelsen (‘Casino Royale,’ ‘Pusher’) have signed up for the gritty pulp romance.

The film follows a normal guy (LaBeouf) who falls for a woman who has been claimed by a violent crime boss. Wood will be playing “Gabi Banyai, the Hungarian woman who Charlie falls in love with after her father dies on a plane next to him,” while Mikkelsen will take the role of Nigel, Gabi’s violent estranged husband, who will stop at nothing to make sure the two don’t end up together.

Albert Berger, Ron Yerxa, Bill Horberg and Craig J. Flores are on boards as producers. ‘The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman’ is scheduled to shoot in Eastern Europe in May with a script by Matt Drake (‘Project X’).
