William Hurt Playing Gregg Allman in MIDNIGHT RIDER

Film will shoot next month…

It has been confirmed, that William Hurt (‘The Host,’ ‘Into The Wild’) is to play the present-day version of legendary rock and blues singer-songwriter Gregg Allman, opposite All American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter as the younger version, in the forthcoming biopic ‘Midnight Rider.’

‘CBGB’ and ‘Bottle Shock’ director Randall Miller and his screenwriting partner and wife Jody Savin will pen the screenplay, working directly with Allman and his manager Michael Lehman.

Based on the rocker’s memoir ‘My Cross to Bear,’ the film will focus on two of the most defining chapters of Allman’s life; his journey as young struggling artist through the formation of the Southern rock group the Allman Brothers, and more recent years when Gregg, after years of drugs and alcohol, cleaned himself up.

Wyatt Russell (’22 Jump Street,’ ‘This is 40’) is on board to portray Duane Allman.

Randall and Savin will produce the feature via their Unclaimed Freight banner. Their music business partner Brad Rosenberger is also on board to produce. Allman and Lehman will serve as executive producers.

Filming is set to get underway next month in Savannah, Georgia.
