Ferrell and McKay are behind the live action/CG hybrid…

Will Ferrell and regular collaborator Adam McKay are set to produce Sony Pictures Animation’s film adaptation of the campy cult series ‘Manimal.’

Starring Simon McCorkindale and Melody Anderson, the short-lived series followed Dr. Jonathan Chase, a wealthy doctor with a mysterious past, who possessed the ability to morph into any animal he chose in order to help the police fight crime.

Jay Martel and Ian Roberts (‘Key & Peele’) are providing the script with the aim of reinventing the property as a live action/CG action-comedy.

Ferrell and McKay will produce the film through their Gary Sanchez Productions banner alongside Jimmy Miller over at Mosaic. Original series co-creator Glen A. Larson will also produce.

“Like ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ or ‘The Sound and the Fury,’ Manimal has always been one of those elusive projects every producer dreams of taking to the silver screen,” said McKay. “I know the movie will be funny and entertaining but will it be the first film to win a Pulitzer? We’ll just have to see.”
