Prepare for a fright fest this September as The Last Excorism makes its way to Irish cinemas. Directred by Daniel Stamm, the film stars Patrick Fabian as Reverend Cotton a charismatic evangelical minister and famed exorcist having a crisis of faith. As he prepares to quit the church and the exorcising racket for good, Marcus agrees to let a documentary crew follow him as he performs his last exorcism…

THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE
Loosely based on the story of Anneliese Michel and follows an initially non-believing defense lawyer and her overwhelming personal experiences that lead her to sharing the defendant’s belief in spiritual warfare and Christianity. The movie, which largely takes place in a courtroom, depicts the trial of Emily’s parish priest, who performed the exorcism and was accused by the state of negligent homicide. The movie, although mostly revolving around the trial, shows flashbacks of the events leading up to Emily Rose’s exorcism, and ultimately, her death. What’s even freakier than this movie is the audio from the supposed “actual” exorcism of Annelise Michel of whom the film is based on. Give it a listen HERE.
REC 2
Spanish writer-directors Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza reunite for the sequel to their 2007 zombie horror, which begins just 15 minutes after the events of the first film. While the original REC may be the better film, it is not until the sequel that we learn what we are truly dealing with religion. With the original film, for the most part, we believe we are dealing with something more on a viral level, but in REC 2 we learn it is a completely different evil….
BEETLE JUICE!
Looking for a lighter form of excorcism? Just say his name three times and you’ve got BEETLE JUICE! Michael Keaton plays the title character, who is called in as a “bio-exorcist” to rid a house of its living inhabitants. With an all star comedic cast including Alec Baldwin, Genna David, Old Bill and Winona Ryder, the film deserves a re-watch if only for the Banana Boat Song scene…
THE EXCORCIST
The quinessential excorism film, how could we leave it off the list? It follows Regan, a cute 12-year-old, experiencing odd behavior. At first her mother believes she’s just sick or perhaps the beginings of that sinister puberty phase. But as the incidents become more common, horrific, and violent (including projectile vomiting and of course masturbating with a crucifix), she suspects her daughter is possessed… The film film was supposedly based on a true story of a 1949 exorcism case in Maryland, though writer Mark Opsasnick showed that Blatty’s account was heavily fictionalized, and the boy in the “real” case showed no evidence of demonic possession.
