Street Dance 3D

Carly lives to dance with her crew, headed up by her boyfriend Jay but when Jay defects for greener pastures, he leaves a broken hearted Carly (and his former crew) without a leader or a place to rehearse. That is until she befriends ballet teacher Helena (Rampling). She can provide the perfect rehearsal space, the catch: she wants Carly to use her prim-and-proper ballet dancers in the streetdancing routine. But will it all come together for the World Streetdancing Championships? While StreetDance 3D won’t be winning any script award, the film is worth seeing for its impressive dance sequences and its state-of-the-art 3D effect.

Step Up

The film that started the Step Up phenomenon. Channing starred as Baltimore street kid Tyler Gage, a guy from the wrong side of the tracks partners up with a ballet dancer… Yes, yes, we’ve heard this all before but the dancing is spectacular and Channing’s likability makes this a win. Honourable mention to Step Up 2 The Streets too, for a well punned title!

Billy Elliott

And finally if you’re looking for a film with story as well as dancing, there’s always the little British dance movie that could. Billy learns to dance against the backdrop of the miners strike and the disapproval of his father. Wonderful performances and dancing from Jamie Bell and Julie Walters.
