Actress circling female lead in remake.
Multiple news outlets are reporting that ‘Modern Family’ actress Sofia Vergara is in line to star opposite Jason Statham in ‘Heat,’ a remake of the 1986 action thriller starring Burt Reynolds.
With Simon West (‘The Expendables 2’) attached to direct, the update follows Nick Escalante, a compulsive gambler-turned hired bodyguard who finds his professional and personal lives colliding when a female friend (Vergara) is brutally beaten by a mobster. Escalante sets out to help his friend seek revenge.
The screenplay was penned by William Goldman, the Oscar winning scribe behind the original film and the novel it is based on.
