Uma Thurman has been cast as a nun in Caspian Pictures’ indie drama Girl Soldiers.
Based on Kathy Cook’s book Stolen Angels, the plot will follow the story of a 1996 armed rebel raid at a boarding school in Uganda, where young girls were abducted and made into soldiers and sex slaves.
Thurman will play Sister Caroline, who helped rescue 140 of the girls after tracking down the rebels. She earned the support of governments, the UN and the pope during her campaign.
“This is a film that had to get made,” said Thurman. “It’s beyond me that in this day and age the exploitation of child soldiers goes virtually unnoticed and unchecked by Western media.”
