Actor joins the John Green adaptation.
TheWrap has learned that Sam Trammell, best known for playing Sam Merlotte on the hit HBO series ‘True Blood,’ has landed a role in ‘The Fault in Our Stars,’ director Josh Boone’s upcoming adaptation of the bestselling novel of the same name by John Green.
Penned by ‘500 Days of Summer’ scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the film tells the heartbreaking love story of Hazel and Augustus (played by Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort), two teenagers who meet at a cancer support group and fall in love. Despite facing their own mortality, the two bolster each other’s spirits with humour as they bravely face an uncertain future.
Trammell will take the role of Woodley’s father; with previously cast Laura Dern (‘Enlightened’) playing her mother. As revealed last month, Nat Wolff (‘Admission’) is on board to play Elgort’s friend.
Principal photography on the adaptation kicks off later this month in Pittsburgh.
