WATCH THE TRAILER

With the release of the Blue Beetle trailer, audiences around the world have finally been introduced to one of the most interesting characters in DC Comics. Jaime Reyes is a teenager gifted with incredible powers after an alien scarab bonds itself to him. He has to learn to control these powers that put him in the same league as many of Earth’s mightiest heroes, otherwise he may risk himself being lost to the will of the scarab.

It’s a fragile balance that has made Jaimie a fascinating character.

Now, with this highly anticipated trailer fans get to see the super-powered teen come to terms with his out of this world partner.

The trailer showcases spectacular action and a stylish cinematic look. Seeing Jaimie fly through the upper atmosphere is beautiful and the suit up scene with his family in tow looks especially intense and brimming with a chaotic energy that is sure to excite audiences of all ages.

What makes the trailer pop is the cast, with Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña leading the charge as Jaime Reyes the titular character. Alongside Maridueña is Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez and Adriana Barraza who play some of Jaime’s family members in the film. To round the cast off the trailer also showed off its villain, played by Susan Sarandon.

Speaking about the cast, director Angel Manuel Soto revealed he wanted to bring all the people that he really respected from the movies that he saw growing up in Mexico. “That really inspired me to become a filmmaker”. Revealed Angel, saying the casting kept him keep the film as authentic as possible, instead of casting “Hallmark cookie-cutter Latinos… It’s just like that, that for me as a director, it’s probably the most satisfying thing is being able to get an authentic chemistry from a collective that feels like something I grew up with”.

With Warner Bros. heading into a new phase with James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm, people are interested to see where Blue Beetle will fit into the next iteration of the DCU. If this trailer is anything to go by, the film promises us a new cinematic comic book superhero different to anything we’ve seen on screen before. Watch this space…
