Tom Cruise Circling Christopher McQuarries ONE SHOT

Cruise eyeing action thriller.

Tom Cruise in negotiations with Paramount Pictures to topline the action thriller ‘One Shot’ with Christopher McQuarrie (‘The Way of the Gun’) in the director’s chair, reports Deadline.

The screenplay, penned by McQuarrie, is adapted from Lee Child’s 2005 novel of the same name and centers on Jack Reacher a former military police officer-turned drifter, who gets pulled into the mystery surrounding the arrest of a sniper accused of killing five random people in a shooting. The book is the ninth in the Reacher series.

Interestingly Jack Reacher is described as being 6’5 and 250 pounds. Supporting the move to cast Cruise, Child said:

“Reacher’s size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way.”

If talks between the actor and the studio work out, Cruise will shoot ‘One Shot’ before moving onto the Joseph Kosinski-directed sci-fi ‘Oblivion.’
