Thomas Haden Church goes to Mars

Wall-E director casts Thomas Haden Church in John Carter of Mars

Just days after the announcement of Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins leading the cast, Thomas Haden Church has joined Disney/Pixar live action take on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars.

“I’m probably going to do a huge science fiction drama at Disney called ‘John Carter of Mars’ and that’s a very dramatic role,” Church told reporters, although he didn’t say anything about what role he might play or whether it’s the villain of the piece.

Directing the film is Wall-E helmer Andrew Stanton who will be making his debut into live-action with this project. The film will be rated PG-13 and is hoped to kick off a franchise of blockbusters similar to the size and scale of Pirates of the Caribbean

Church has become quite proficient in the antagonist role, not only from the new Murphy movie but more famously, for playing Sandman in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.
