The Tree Of Life gets Irish release date

Terrence Malick’s much delayed epic – The Tree of Life – has finally got a release date for the UK and Ireland: July 8th.

Icon was originally supposed to distribute the film at this side of the world, but they lost the rights after they defaulted on their agreement not to release the film before it’s world premiere at Cannes. In March it was reported that The Tree of Life would be released on May 4th – more than two weeks before it’s scheduled screening at Cannes. As a result of this, The Tree of Life was wrapped up in legal proceedings, with Fox Searchlight winning distribution rights for the UK and Ireland.

We were lucky enough to see the film at Cannes, and we were completely blown away, not everyone felt the same however – one audience member felt strongly enough to loudly boo the film before the closing credits even began. The Tree of Life has since been released in the US to overwhelmingly positive reviews.

TREE OF LIFE hits Irish cinemas on July 8th 2011
