The Leaves Comic For Film

Kevin J. Walsh will adapt the comics for film

Summit Entertainment has picked up the film rights to Virgin Comics graphic novel “The Leaves,” created by Kevin J. Walsh.

Walsh will pen the screenplay as an action thriller that revolves around a New York doctor who travels to Mumbai, India, for a friend’s funeral and meets an Indian fortune-teller who identifies him as the man who will bring about the apocalypse.

Gotham Chopra, Virgin Comics’ founder, chief creative officer and editor-in-chief, will produce along with Virgin Comics CEO Sharad Devarajan.

“It seems as if Summit is fated to work on this movie with Gotham and Virgin Comics,” said Summit president of production Erik Feig, who will oversee the film with his vp, Jean Song. “Never have we seen a more innovative and visual setting for a whip-smart action thriller.”

The “Leaves” comic is the third stand-alone series in Virgin’s Asura Analogues, stories based on the Asura demons common in eastern Hindu and Buddhist mythology.

“Mining the great mysteries and mythologies of India and nurturing them into fresh films for the world to see has become what we’re known for at Virgin Comics,” Chopra said.
