THE HEAT Spinoff In The Works

Potential sequel in the works…

Deadline’s Mike Fleming is hearing that writer-director Paul Feig is hatching a spinoff to his hit summer comedy ‘The Heat,’ with actress and writer Tricia McAlpin providing the script.

The follow-up would focus on the characters of Beth and Gina (played by Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin), who were part of Melissa McCarthy’s raucous extended family that that grilled Sandra Bullock’s uptight FBI Agent Sarah Ashburn in a stand-out scene.

“Jamie and Jessica are two of the funniest people on this planet,” said Feig. “They took small roles in ‘The Heat’ and turned them into characters worthy of their own movie. I can’t wait to unleash Beth and Gina on the world. Run for your lives.”

Feig, along with his wife and producing partner Laurie, have previously worked with Denbo and Chaffin, directing the comic duo’s ‘Ronna & Beverly’ pilot for Showtime, and producing six episodes of their fake talk show for for Sky Atlantic.
