Pierre Morel-directed action thriller adds more.
Idris Elba, who next stars in Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi epic ‘Pacific Rim,’ Ray Winstone (‘The Departed’) and Italian actress Jasmine Trinca (‘The Son’s Room,’ ‘Miele’) are all set to join Sean Penn and Javier Bardem in the upcoming action thriller ‘The Gunman.’
With Pierre Morel in the director’s chair, the film is based a novel by French author Jean-Patrick Manchette and sees Penn playing protagonist Martin Terrier, a hired killer who wants out of the game — so he can settle down with the woman he loves, but finds it’s harder than expected as the organization he works for won’t let him go.
Heat Vision is hearing that Elba will play a mysterious agent named Dupont, while TheWrap has Trinca playing Terrier’s love interest, Anne Freux. Winstone would play Penn’s mentor.
Joel Silver, Andrew Rona and Steve Richards of Silver Pictures are producing with Pete Travis providing the script. Production is scheduled to begin later this month in Barcelona.
