Director to tackle martial arts remake…
Australian director Patrick Hughes (‘The Expendables 3,’ ‘Red Hill’) is in talks to take the director’s chair for the English-language remake of the cult Indonesian martial arts actioner ‘The Raid.’
Directed by Gareth Huw Evans, the 2011 original follows an elite SWAT team tasked with raiding a rundown apartment block in Jakarta that is filled with the world’s most dangerous killers and gangsters. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord that runs the block, the building’s lights are cut and all the exits blocked.
The script for remake comes from screenwriter Brad Ingelsby (‘Run All Night,’ ‘Out of the Furnace’), and will feature a similar storyline to the original. XYZ Films will produce.
