British filmmaker in talks for cinematic reboot.

‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ helmer Rupert Wyatt is reportedly in talks to step behind the camera and direct Denzel Washington in the big screen reboot of ‘The Equalizer.’

Featuring a script by Richard Wenk (‘The Expendables 2,’ ‘The Mechanic’), the thriller is loosely based on the classic 80’s series starring Edward Woodward and will see Washington playing “a solitary, monastic figure who hates injustice and devotes himself to helping people who are being victimized.”

Backers Sony Pictures and Escape Artists are aiming to have the film in production by June with a budget of around $50 million. ‘Drive’ director Nicolas Winding Refn was previously in talks to tackle the cinematic reboot but passed on the gig back in January.
