THE ARTIST Helmer Remaking Post-WWII Drama THE SEARCH

Filming underway in Georgia…

It has been revealed that Oscar-winning French director Michel Hazanavicius (‘The Players,’ ‘The Artist,’ ‘OSS 117’) is currently in production on a remake of Fred Zinnemann’s post-World War II drama ‘The Search.’

Zinnemann’s 1948 original – starring Montgomery Clift, Ivan Jandl, and Jarmila Novotná – tells the story of a young Auschwitz survivor and his mother who search for each other across post-World War II Berlin.

Hazanavicius is believed to be shifting the drama to contemporary war-torn Chechnya with his wife and ‘The Artist’ co-star Bérénice Bejo in the lead as an NGO employee. Annette Bening (‘Girl Most Likely,’ ‘Ruby Sparks’) is on board to co-star.

The film reunites Hazanavicius with Thomas Langmann and Emmanuel Montamat, his producers on the 2011 Oscar winner ‘The Artist.’ Production is underway in Georgia, with the filming to take place in Paris in the coming weeks.
