Ten things you need to know about Viggo Mortensen

We bring you ten factoids about the star of EVERYBODY HAS A PLAN

EVERYBODY HAS A PLAN is released in Irish cinemas this week, and stars Viggo Mortensen in dual roles as twins. Mortensen is notoriously talented and notoriously enigmatic, so we gathered together some facts about the actor, singer and poet…

Mortensen’s screen debut was as a young Amish Farmer in Peter Weir’s WITNESS.
Since then he has appeared in 47 movies and, according to IMDb, has three in production.

Before he was famous as an actor, Viggo had a book of poetry published, entitled ‘Ten Last Night’.
Ten what? We are not sure, and the book seems to be out of print, so we may never know.

Mortensen had a photography exhibition at the Robert Mann Gallery in NYC in 2000.
Is there anything this man cannot turn his hand to?

Viggo broke a tooth while filming a fight sequence for THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS and had the crew glue it back on so he could finish the scene.
A badass as Aragorn and a badass in real life. Nice!

When he finished work on both THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and HIDALGO, Mortensen bought the horses he rode in the films.
That’s rather sweet!

Viggo replaced Christoph Waltz in the role of Sigmund Freud in A DANGEROUS METHOD after Waltz backed out of the project in order to film WATER FOR ELEPHANTS.
Mortensen also replaced our own Stuart Townsend as Aragorn in THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy.

While living in Denmark, Mortensen worked as a truck driver.
Not quite as glamorous as his current job.

Mortensen is also a jazz musician and his latest album – Reunion – was released in 2011.
He also sang a song called “Aragorn’s Coronation” on THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING soundtrack.

On April 16, 2010, Viggo was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Dannebrog by Queen Margarethe II of Denmark.
This makes him one of five Knights from THE LORD OF THE RINGS production; the others being Ian Holm, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee and Peter Jackson.

Viggo painted the large murals in his artist’s studio in A PERFECT MURDER.
He paints too! At this stage, he’s making the rest of us look bad.
