Ten Things You need To Know About Ryan Gosling

We bring you factoids about THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES actor, Ryan Gosling

With THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES in cinemas this weekend, and the trailer for ONLY GOD FORGIVES released last week, it is fairly safe to say that the cinema world has gone crazy for Ryan Gosling… Again. Movies.ie took on the arduous task of gathering together some facts about the actor that some of us want, and some of us want to be…

Gosling started his career on The Mickey Mouse Club, where his contemporaries were Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.
Spears and Gosling used to play spin the bottle together. That’s sort of cute.

After finishing work on Blue Valentine, Gosling had to go to the doctor for a physical… “When I left he gave me a prescription. He wrote, ‘Do a comedy’.” Maybe this is why Gosling decided to do CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE.
…And we are glad he did. It’s always good to see an actor take the mick out of themselves.

Gosling was bullied so badly in school that he was taken out of school and educated at home by his mother.
We bet those bullies are raging now…

Gosling’s band – formed with Zach Shields – is called Dead Man’s Bones, and they are kitschly brilliant. There may be a second album in the works, but until then, here’s a track to keep you going.

We love the odd Gothic vibe of the album, and Gosling’s gorgeous singing voice.

To prepare for his role in THE NOTEBOOK, Gosling made the kitchen table that is featured in the film.
…And millions swooned.

In school, his nickname was Trouble.
Aww. That’s sort of cute too.

Nicholas Winding Refn was Gosling’s choice to direct Drive; at the Cannes press conference for the film in 2011, Gosling stated it was REO Speedwagon’s I Can’t Fight This Feeling Any More that sealed he deal…
Gosling said; “We eventually had a meeting and he wouldn’t look at me or talk to me and he seemed very bored. It eventually felt like a date that was going horribly wrong. It turns out Nicolas was sick and was on American medication and he was high [laughs]. He asked if I could take him home, basically it was the stage where I wasn’t getting anything and we should just call it. We got in the car and it was an awkward drive home, we didn’t know what to say to each other, so I just turned up the music. REO Speedwagon’s I Can’t Fight This Feeling Any More came on, and I wasn’t sure, but out of the corner of my eye I saw him singing at the top of his lungs. Then he said, ‘I got the movie. It’s about a man who drives around Los Angeles listening to pop music’. [laughs]
Thank you REO Speedwagon!

Gosling co-owns Tagine, a Moroccan restaurant in Beverly Hills, California.
We bet he can cook too.

When he told The Huffington Post that he intended to take a break from acting to regain perspective on why he does what he does, a helpline was set up to help heartbroken Gosling fans cope with the loss.
We are fans of The Gos, but we wouldn’t go that far. After all, we can always watch DRIVE again.

Gosling is currently working on his directorial debut HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER, a ‘fantasy noir’ that he also wrote the screenplay for. Christina Hendricks, Ben Mendelsohn, and Matt Smith are attached to star in the film.
Fantasy? Noir? Gosling? Hendricks? Is there anything not to love about this premise?
