Ten things you need to know about Paul Giamatti

We bring you the facts about the star of PARKLAND

PARKLAND is released in Irish cinemas this week; the film boasts an incredible cast, but at the heart of the film is Paul Giamatti as Abraham Zapruder. We all know Giamatti is a wonderful actor, but we wanted to know more, so we gathered together some factoids about the actor.

Giamatti majored in English at Yale, and obtained his Master’s Degree in Fine Arts, with his major in drama from the Yale University School of Drama.
… So not only is he talented, but he’s clever too!

In the 1998 remake of DOCTOR DOLITTLE, Paul portrayed a human in charge of a talking orang-utan, in the 2001 remake of PLANET OF THE APES he played a talking orang-utan in charge of humans.
… Life often runs in circles, but this is a strange one.

Paul’s father, Bart Giamatti had a nemesis; baseball player Pete Rose.
… Although this sounds like a plot from a Giamatti movie, Paul’s father made an enemy in Rose when he was a major league baseball commissioner!

In SIDEWAYS, Paul’s character, Miles, looks at a picture of himself as a younger man standing with a man in sunglasses. This is a photo of Paul Giamatti with his father, Bart Giamatti.
… That’s a sweet family connection, especially since Giamatti’s father died in 1989.

Giamatti was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2006, for his role in CINDERELLA MAN.
… He lost out to George Clooney for SYRIANA.

Giamatti’s ancestry includes Italian, English, Dutch, Irish, Scottish, and French.
… We see Irish on that list! Therefore, we’ll adopt him on behalf of Ireland!

Paul starred in COSMOPOLIS last year and was the only American actor in the cast.
… In fact, with the exceptions of Robert Pattinson (British) and Juliette Binoche (French), the rest of the cast were Canadian.

Giamatti was nominated for 45 separate awards between 2001 and 2008, and won 26 of them, including both an Emmy and a Golden Globe.
… Wow! That’s quite an impressive run!

Paul once said ‘I don’t consider myself a very interesting person. I have the mentality of a supporting actor’.
… Well you may have the mentality of a supporting actor Paul, but you’ll always be a lead actor to us!

Not only will Giamatti play villain The Rhino in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, but he will appear in this year’s DOWNTON ABBEY Christmas Special.
… As well as in SAVING MR. BANKS and next year’s TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE.

PARKLAND is in Irish cinemas from November 22nd
