Temple Bar TRADFEST to show traditional Irish music films

Ring in the new year with trad sessions from the Irish film archive

Now in its sixth year the Temple Bar TradFest returns on January 26th and besides music from Altan you can also watch a series of films from the Irish Film archive.

Providing the backstory to one of the star turns for Tradfest 2011, we are pleased to present Cathal Watters intimate and insightful documentary about Leo and Baba Brennan, and their musical family, Clannad. With contributions from Moya, Pól, Ciaran, Leon, Deirdre, Olive, Bartley and Bridín Brennan.

Irland – Lieder für Träumer, Musik für Rebellen
(Ireland – Songs for dreamers, music for rebels). 1967
Directed by Margit Wagner for German television this documentary provides a snapshot of traditional Irish music around Dublin in the early 70s. It includes performances from Johnny McEvoy, Bill Power, Dolly McMahon, The Ludlows, Al O’Donnell, Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew and Liam Devally.

The Pilgrimmage of Ti Jean
In this documentary made by Philip Donnellan for the BBC, French-Canadian master fiddler Jean Carignan visits Ireland to search for the music of Sligo-born Michael Coleman whom he has idolised for half a century. He is accompanied on his travels by a young John Faulkner and Dolores Keane and presents a master-class in his remarkable fiddle technique along the way.
