A Hollywood star is duped into starring in an am-dram Shakespearean production in this witty Brit comedy.
Ageing, fading Hollywood star Jefferson Steel (Burt Reynolds) is lured to London by the prospect of playing the part of King Lear in a high-profile and rather grand Stratford production. When he arrives, however, he finds that he's actually been signed up to star in a play put together by a group of amateurs in a sleepy little village in England. Resentment bubbles close to the surface in the form of the local solicitor (Sir Derek Jacobi), who's finding it desperately hard to come to terms with playing understudy to a ghastly Hollywood hotshot. A wealth of British heavyweights (Imelda Staunton, Samantha Bond) co-star in this funny, moving comedy that was selected at this year's Royal Film Performance and was attended by the Queen, no less.
