STAR TREK Sequel Will Be in 3D

Composer Michael Giacchino will return to provide score.

Deadline, J.J. Abrams’ highly anticipated ‘Star Trek’ sequel is to hit cinemas May 2013 and in 3D, reports Deadline. Unfortunately it is not clear if Abrams plans to shoot the untitled sequel in 3D or post-convert.

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof will be providing the screenplay, as well as producing alongside Abrams and his Bad Robot partner Bryan Burk.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and other key cast members will be returning, and as previously reported, Benicio Del Toro is up for the role of the movie’s villain.

In addition to the news of the film being released in 3D, ComingSoon talked to Academy Award winning composer and Abrams’ regular collaborator Michael Giacchino, who confirmed that he will be back to score the untitled sequel. “”Yes, I’ll be back. I’ll be there just as soon as they finish it.”
