SPY HUNTER Lands Ruben Fleischer

Helmer takes control of videogame adaptation.

Vulture is reporting that ‘Gangster Squad’ and ‘Zombieland’ director Ruben Fleischer has signed on to helm the feature adaptation of the vertical-scrolling action/driving videogame ‘Spy Hunter.’

Long-in-development the project original had John Woo on board to direct with Dwayne Johnson attached to star, and later, ‘Resident Evil’ director Paul W.S. Anderson showed interest before moving on to direct ‘Death Race 2000.’

Chad St. John (‘Motor City’) penned the most recent draft of the screenplay but Vulture is hearing word that Fleischer will be hiring new scribes.
