Simon West to Direct THE BLOB Remake

Classic B movie to get new remake…

‘The Mechanic’ and ‘The Expendables 2’ helmer Simon West has been tapped to take the director’s chair for a new take on the 1958 horror/sci-fi classic ‘The Blob,’ Deadline reports.

Starring a young Steve McQueen, the original revolved around a strange alien life-form that emerges from a crashed meteor, consuming everything in its path as it grows and grows.

A low-budget sequel titled ‘Beware! The Blob’ popped up in 1972, with a remake directed by Chuck Russell arriving in 1988.

“With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It’s a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans,” said West.

Production is pencilled in for a summer start with Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten (‘Devil’s Knot,’ ‘Cell’) producing.
