Silvestri To Score Captain America The First Avenger

Alan Silvestri attached to score Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger

According to Film Music Reporter, Alan Silvestri, the man behind the music for movies like the ‘Back To The Future’ trilogy, ‘The Abyss,’ ‘Forrest Gump’ and ‘Predator’ has signed on to score ‘Captain America: The First Avenger.’

The movie will mark the first collaboration between Silvestri and director Joe Johnston, who previously has worked with such composers as James Horner, Danny Elfman, James Newton Howard and Mark Isham. The film also marks Silvestri’s first scoring assignment since last year’s summer action film ‘The A-Team’ and his first comic book adaptation since 1995′s ‘Judge Dredd.’ Alan Menken, who wrote songs for Disney musicals such as ‘The Little Mermaid,’ ‘The Lion King,’ and ‘Tangled’ wrote a small amount of music for the film, which it’s generally assumed will show up during a USO show or some other propaganda event featuring the captain.

Composers Michael Giacchino (‘Mission: Impossible III,’ ‘Star Trek’) and John Powell (‘How To Train Your Dragon,’ ‘Knight & Day’) were said to be in the running, but Marvel ended up going with Silvestri. Directed by Joe Johnston, ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan and Stanley Tucci. The movie opens in Irish cinemas July 29th.
