Short Circuit Remake

“The Collector” follows the story of handyman and ex-con Arkin, who aims to repay a debt to his ex-wife by robbing his new employer’s country home. Unfortunately for Arkin, a far worse enemy has already laid claim to the property–and the family. As the seconds tick down to midnight, Arkin becomes a reluctant hero trapped by a masked “Collector” in a maze of lethal invention–the Spanish Inquisition as imagined by Rube Goldberg–while trying to rescue the very family he came to rob.

Not only can robot fans look forward to Pixar’s upcoming ‘Wall-e’,  now it seems a remake of the classic “Short Circuit,” is on its way.

The original introduced Number 5, a robot built by the military to be a highly sophisticated weapon. It developed a conscience and a personality after being hit by lightning, and then needed the help of humans after it was targeted for destruction by its makers, once it became a peacenik.

S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who created the characters and wrote both “Short Circuit” films, have been hired to write the remake. David Foster and Ryan E. Heppe will produce with John Hyde.

TIDBIT: In Short Circuit  1 & 2 Johnny 5’s voice is provided by puppeteer Tim Blaney. This casting decision was made due to the director’s belief that real-time interaction with the robot prop would make the interaction seem more natural on-screen than if they edited Johnny’s voice in during post-production.
