Scorsese Planning SHUTTER ISLAND TV Series

Dennis Lehane will script the pilot…

HBO and Paramount Television are reportedly teaming for a small screen adaptation of Martin Scorsese’s 2010 hit film ‘Shutter Island.’

Tentatively titled ‘Ashecliffe,’ the story would be set at the isolated mental hospital depicted in the Leonardo DiCaprio-led film with the series beginning before the events in the film and the Dennis Lehane novel on which the movie was based.

Deadline hears that the focus of the series will be the past of hospital, and the secrets and misdeeds perpetrated by its founders who erected the hospital in the early 20th Century and developed the methods of treatment use for the mentally ill.

The plan is for Scorsese to direct the pilot from a script by Lehane.
