Schreiber and Sarsgaard Make PAWN SACRIFICE With Maguire

Bobby Fischer biopic adds Schreiber and Sarsgaard.

Liev Schreiber (‘Ray Donovan,’ ‘The Last Days on Mars ‘) and Peter Sarsgaard (‘Blue Jasmine,’ ‘Lovelace’) have entered into negotiations to join Tobey Maguire (‘The Great Gatsby,’ ‘The Details’) in the Bobby Fischer drama ‘Pawn Sacrifice.’

Penned by Stephen Knight (‘Eastern Promises,’ ‘Dirty Pretty Things’), the film tells the life story of American chess icon Fischer (Maguire) leading up to his historic world championship match against Russian Boris Spassky (Schreiber). Sargaard is up for the role of William Lombardy, a priest who became a close confidant of Fischer.

Production on the Cold War-era drama is set to kick off next month in Montreal under the direction of Ed Zwick (‘The Last Samurai,’ ‘Defiance,’ ‘Love & Other Drugs’).
