Samuel L. Jackson Signs on for Spike Lee

Jackson boards remake.

24 Frames has word that Samuel L. Jackson (‘Robocop,’ ‘Django Unchained’) has become the latest addition to the cast of Spike Lee’s English-language remake of ‘Oldboy.’

Jackson has reportedly signed up for a “small but critical” role in the remake, with the blog’s sources claiming that the ‘Avengers Assemble’ star will be playing the man who tortured by Josh Brolin’s protagonist in a key revenge scene.

Fans of the original will remember a painful scene involving teeth and the claw end of a hammer. The remake is believed to be staying away from the tooth removal, opting to up to the ante with a different form of torture.

Lee is expected to get his remake into production in the autumn with filming to take place in Louisiana and New York. Sharlto Copley and Elizabeth Olsen are set to co-star.

Bruce Hornsby, who most recently scored Lee’s ‘Red Hook Summer,’ will be composing the score for ‘Oldboy.’
