SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH Next on the Reboot Line

Precocious teen witch to receive makeover.

Deadline has word that Sony Pictures has plans to reboot the ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’ franchise, re-imagining the teen as a superhero with an origin story in the vein of ‘Spider-Man.’

The studio has tapped Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari to pen the screenplay which will be “about a young girl coming to terms with her remarkable powers.”

Don Murphy and Susan Montford (‘Real Steel’) are on board to produce, with Mark Waters (‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins,’ ‘Mean Girls’) being eyed as a potential director.

According to reports, the tone will be edgier than the sitcom starring Melissa Joan Hart, but will keep her talking black cat Salem, who here is “a transformed prince creating unique love stories for Sabrina.”
